A
Volunteer Opportunity - A beach docent program
started by Ventura Audubon with the US Fish and Wildlife Service many years ago has
begun. Chris Kahler has been hired as the coordinator and is
recruiting volunteers to help protect Least Terns and Snowy Plovers on our local
beaches. You can check it out at the program's website: Docent Program Website.

Ways to Painlessly Contribute Funds to Ventura Audubon:
Now you can help support Ventura Audubon Society by purchasing optics
equipment through Eagle Optics. To participate you may click on this link: Eagle Optics.
For every purchase through this site, Eagle Optics will donate
5% of the sale to Ventura Audubon. If you prefer to order by phone

bird life history, bird distribution, bird feeding, bird art and birding and
conservation articles. Many of our members already enjoy it. You may click on

Ventura County Bird Checklist 2007 is now available in a handy field checklist form. Click on
the Publications link on the left and order one. Two
additions to the website:
1) If you find a sick or injured bird
you can get help with it by following the bottom item in the menu on
the left.
2) Confused about what rare birds to
report? Go to the Links page using the menu on the left and look for the
information under Research.
You can now contribute to the scientific endeavor
to keep track of bird populations. Audubon
California has made a special effort to encourage birders to record their
observations on eBird. This data will be used by
researchers to understand what birds are where and how many there are at various
times of the year. "Hasn't that been done?" you ask. Well we checked
eBird
for the Santa Clara River
estuary for the last 5 years and discovered there were no birds reported
there...so there is room for improvement.
Just go to the links page.
Look under research and follow the link provided there.

Our Mission
The mission of the
Ventura
Audubon Society is to promote at the local level, by education and action,
the protection and restoration of bird populations and wildlife habitat
for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biodiversity.
Our
Mission
is achieved by the following activities:
- Conducting volunteer research
on bird distribution and populations.
- Working to restore natural areas
through removal of non-native plants and re-vegetation with native plants.
- Education about natural habitats
and the species that use them and Audubon activities through monthly programs
and newsletters.
- Education of children to be good
stewards of the earth through supporting Audubon Adventures programs in
local classrooms.
- Working to preserve natural habitats
by reviewing and commenting on environmental documents for land use projects
to the various government agencies involved in planning and, where necessary,
supporting legal action to ensure protection of environmental quality and
diversity
- Creating an appreciation of various
habitats and their wildlife and plant resources by conducting field trips.
