Valley View Ranch Restoration
and
Hedrick Ranch Nature Area

Sandy Hedrick, a rancher in Ventura County, and also out Conservation Crew Chair, has sold 100 acres of his Valley View Ranch, located near Santa Paula and along the Santa Clara River, to the Friends of the Santa Clara River with help from the Coastal Conservancy.

The Hedrick Ranch Nature Area is a +260 acre preserve owned by the Friends of the Santa Clara River (FSCR), located on the south side of the Santa Clara River near Santa Paula.  We have an active group of volunteers working to restore about 45 acres of the HRNA, via regularly scheduled workdays once per month fall through spring.  Our efforts include weed abatement, planting of native plants, and establishing trails.  We also spend time bird watching and looking for other wildlife, and it's a very congenial group!  We start at 9:00 am and finish by 11:30 or 12.  Wear long pants, boots, and sun protection, and bring water.  We have tools and some gloves.

The schedule of workdays is:

Take 126 to Santa Paula, 10th St. Exit. Go left under freeway, rt. on Harvard, rt. on 12th, cross Santa Clara river bridge. 12St. turns left and becomes South Mountain Road.  Go 3.7 miles east to 20395 S. Mountain Rd., entry gate on left. As always, you are welcome to arrive early for birding.
