Sick or Injured Bird
Care
Every year hundreds of
birds are injured in Ventura County by collision with human made objects; i.e.
windows, cars, power lines, etc. In addition many young birds get
separated from their parents before they are ready to fly. Luckily there
are things that can be done to help these birds. Some times baby birds can
be returned to their nest. If a nest has been knocked down it can be put
up high nearby. Birds don't have a sense of smell, generally, and that
allows them to be handled without the parents rejecting them.
It is
illegal to care for a wild bird in your home without a rehabilitation
license. That's because many species require specific diets in order to
thrive and often need care that is different than a household pet. We are
privileged to have two organizations in Ventura County that provide care for
