We welcome new members in the Ventura Audubon Society. Advantages of membership include the following:
CHAPTER MEMBERSHIP
There are now two ways to become a member of Ventura Audubon. People can join our chapter by joining either the National Audubon Society or just our local chapter. Membership in National Audubon makes you a member of Ventura Audubon, supports National Audubon's legislative programs, wildlife areas and nature centers and you receive Audubon magazine in addition to our local newsletter. The first year membership in National Audubon is $20.00 ($15.00 for senior or student) with a $35.00 per year renewal thereafter. Our chapter currently receives a small amount of your annual NAS fee. It appears that this will stop in the near future.
The second way to join is a "chapter member" membership for $20.00 per year, with a $20.00 renewal. This option would provide support for our chapter with the money staying in our local budget. The funds would be used locally for our programs, conservation projects and other chapter expenses. With this membership you would receive our newsletter by mail, but would not receive Audubon magazine. This choice does not support National Audubon's national programs, but provides more money for local programs.
Your board does not advocate leaving the National Audubon Society, but has provided this option to counteract the loss of funding from National Audubon. National Audubon provides guidance to all of us on issues vital to maintaining a world that includes a place for natural environments and their plant and animal inhabitants. You may choose the type of membership you want.
